The Road To Motherhood: How A Confinement Lady Helped Me
Despite marrying late at 40, I am thankful for being able to conceive and deliver my first child. I was not expecting this to happen after getting married because I heard that it is hard to get pregnant when you are old.
My husband and I even decided to adopt a child instead of trying, but our honeymoon bore fruits. Since it felt surreal, we went to several OBGYN specialists to guarantee that we were not dreaming. They mentioned that we are indeed having a baby and we need to be more careful, considering my age.
But there was one problem, I had no idea how to be a mum since my mother died when I was five. My father was the one who raised me, which led me to become a bit boyish and lacking in femininity, unlike others.
As for my mother-in-law, she passed away during the peak of COVID-19. She tried her best to stay positive and alive throughout her treatment because she wanted to see her future grandchildren from us. With no mother figures to rely on, my husband and I decided to hire a confinement nanny in Singapore.
When COVID-19 threatened humanity, we postponed our wedding date, including our honeymoon. We had to push the dates because of the circuit breaker and travel restrictions. My husband and I finally got married a year after. Instead of going abroad, we decided to do our honeymoon in one of the resorts on Sentosa Island. We only found out that I was pregnant when I fainted at work.
